Yoga Nidra, also referred to as yogic sleep, is practiced in a state between waking and sleeping, and is the most fully relaxed state a person can be in while remaining fully conscious of their surroundings. It is a meditative practice during which the body is completely relaxed, and the attention is turned inward. The practice is conducted through listening to a set of verbal instructions that guide the students’ attention to their inner world so that they may become more deeply aware and relaxed.
Yoga Nidra is beneficial in reducing the symptoms of anxiety and stress, and has been found to be helpful in the treatment of veterans with PTSD.
